School Lunch Mock Trial Project Package

Description

In this dynamic project, students take on the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and jurors. In this mock trial, the students at your school (the plaintiffs) have filed suit against the NYC Department of Education, alleging the subpar quality of school lunches in New York City violates nutritional standards set forth by federal and state law. To prepare for their in-class trial, students engage in rigorous research on the issue, gather evidence, and diligently coach their witnesses. This hands-on experience not only sharpens their research skills, but also encourages critical examination of public policy, fostering civic engagement and an understanding of the legal system.
