Intro Lesson: Understanding Why People Use the Term “Settler Colonialism” in the Context of Palestine

For many students, the notion that Israel would be considered a settler colonial project is new. While students are accustomed to hearing that the United States and Canada fall into this category, for some, the idea that Israel would as well is new. In this lesson, students build a physical timeline (using description blocks and expo markers) of the events leading to the establishment of the Israeli state. This lesson is appropriate for both for students who have some prior knowledge of the events leading up to the establishment of the Israeli state, as well as for students who are just beginning to learn about this topic.
